Mary Currier, MD, MPH is retired from the Mississippi State Department of Health where she served as State Health Officer from December, 2009 to October, 2018. Prior to accepting this position, she was the MSDH State Epidemiologist from 2007 through 2009 and from 1993 to 2004. From 2004 through 2007, she worked with the Health Policy Research Center at Mississippi State University and as the Director of Medical Education in the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Department of Medicine. Since her retirement she has joined the UMMC Department of Preventive Medicine and is teaching and working with Preventive Medicine Residents part time.
She holds an MD degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and an MPH and preventive medicine residency from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is board certified in Public Health and General Preventive.
